Sunset Cruises Near Sarasota & Siesta Key โ€” When to Go & What to Expect

Few experiences on the Gulf Coast compare to watching the sun dip below the horizon from the water. If you’re planning a sunset cruise near Sarasota, Osprey, or Siesta Key, here’s everything you need to know about timing, seasons, and what to expect on the water with Suncoast Adventure Tours & Charters.

When Do We Offer Sunset Tours?

We offer sunset tours year-round, with some seasonal considerations:

September through May is our prime sunset season. The weather is reliable, the skies are clear, and the Gulf puts on a show almost every evening. This is the best time to book if you want a guaranteed beautiful experience.

June, July, and August โ€” we do offer sunset tours in the summer months, but Florida’s summer weather brings a daily pattern of late afternoon and early evening storms. While the sunsets themselves can be absolutely stunning in summer, getting out and back without encountering a downpour is always a challenge.

If you want to book a summer sunset tour, here’s our advice: click Book Now and check availability. If we have openings listed, it’s a good sign we’ve already checked the forecast and conditions are looking favorable. You can also call us directly and we’ll give you an honest assessment of whether it’s worth going out that evening.

What Time Do We Depart?

We typically depart approximately one and a half hours before sunset. This gives us time to cruise the intracoastal waterway on the way to Big Pass in Sarasota Bay, do a little sightseeing along the way, and often spot some of our resident dolphins before we head out to watch a spectacular Suncoast Sunset.

Sunset times in Sarasota vary throughout the year. Here’s a general seasonal guide:

  • January & February โ€” Sunset around 5:45 โ€“ 6:15 PM | Depart around 4:15 โ€“ 4:45 PM
  • March & April โ€” Sunset around 7:30 โ€“ 7:45 PM | Depart around 6:00 โ€“ 6:15 PM
  • May โ€” Sunset around 8:00 โ€“ 8:15 PM | Depart around 6:30 โ€“ 6:45 PM
  • June, July & August โ€” Sunset around 8:15 โ€“ 8:30 PM | Depart around 6:45 โ€“ 7:00 PM (weather permitting)
  • September & October โ€” Sunset around 7:30 โ€“ 7:00 PM | Depart around 6:00 โ€“ 5:30 PM
  • November & December โ€” Sunset around 5:30 โ€“ 5:45 PM | Depart around 4:00 โ€“ 4:15 PM

Where Do We Depart From?

All of our sunset cruises depart from 582 Blackburn Point Road, Osprey, FL 34229. We are just before The Deep Lagoon on Blackburn Point Road. We have easy access to the intracoastal waterway and the open Gulf waters โ€” putting us in the perfect position to chase the best light of the day.

What to Expect on Your Sunset Cruise

  • Private tour โ€” your group only, never shared with strangers
  • Up to 6 guests per Coast Guard regulations
  • 24-foot Hurricane Sundeck โ€” spacious, comfortable, and shaded
  • Dolphin sightings are common on the way out โ€” our local waters are home to 170+ resident bottlenose dolphins
  • All ages welcome โ€” families, couples, and groups of friends
  • Approximately 2 hours on the water

Tips for the Best Sunset Experience

  • Bring a light layer โ€” even in warm months it can get breezy on the water as the sun goes down
  • Arrive 10-15 minutes early so we can depart on time and make the most of the light
  • Bring your camera โ€” the light on the water in the final 30 minutes before sunset is unlike anything you’ll see from shore
  • BYO drinks and snacks are welcome on board. Alcoholic beverages are welcome but please, no glass and no red wines.
